Vertica Integration with Aqua Data Studio: Connection Guide
Applies to Vertica 8.0.x and earlier
About Vertica Connection Guides
Vertica connection guides provide basic information about setting up connections to Vertica from software that our technology partners create. These documents provide guidance using one specific version of Vertica and one specific version of the third party vendor’s software. Other versions of the third-party product may work with Vertica. However, other versions may not have been tested. This document provides guidance using the latest versions of Vertica and Aqua Data Studio as of December, 2016.
Aqua Data Studio Overview
Aqua Data Studio is a database query tool that works with Vertica to provide management and administrative capabilities. The visual analytics features allow users to browse and modify database structures, including schema objects and database storage, and maintain database security. The integrated query tool allows users to quickly create, edit, and execute SQL queries and scripts. Aqua Data Studio also provides import and export tools to move data easily both in and from different data formats, and in and out of the Vertica database.
This document provides the connection information you need to connect Aqua Data Studio to Vertica. Aqua Data Studio uses the Vertica JDBC client driver to connect to Vertica.
Download and Install Aqua Data Studio
Download the latest version of Aqua Data Studio from the AquaFold site.
Download Vertica Client Drivers
Before you can connect to Vertica using Aqua Data Studio, you must download the Vertica JDBC driver by following these steps:
Download the version of the Vertica client package that is compatible with the architecture of your operating system and Vertica server version.
Note Vertica drivers are forward compatible, so you can connect to the Vertica server using previous versions of the client. For more information about client and server compatibility, see Client Driver and Server Version Compatibility in the Vertica documentation.
Connect Aqua Data Studio to Vertica
Copy the downloaded JDBC file into your Aqua Data Studio folder: 64bit\lib\drivers.
Open Aqua Data Studio. On the left panel, select Local Database Servers > New Server Group.
Enter a new server group name.
Right-click the server group you created and select Register Server.
In the Register Server window, select Vertica and enter your database credentials.
Click Test Connection.
After you confirm a successful connection, click Save.
You can open tables within the schema by right-clicking a table and selecting Script Object to Window as > SELECT(*).
